Community Overveiw
St. John Lutheran Church was organized in January 1954. Most of the members came from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeport and Christ Lutheran in Lake Jackson, this group of citizens gathered together for the purpose of forming a Lutheran congregation. The congregation received a Mission Package status from the Texas District of the American Lutheran Church, a predecessor body of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We are a part of the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod, which is under the care of Bishop Michael Rinehart. We are a small congregation with a big heart. Situated in Angleton, a town of 18,900 people, we are located approximately 45 miles South of Houston, in rapidly-growing Brazoria County. We are committed to proclaiming the Word of God and celebrating the Sacraments as we live out our baptismal calling to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Many pastors have served in St John since our beginning in 1954. With our first pastor, the Revd. Marvin O. Huth, all the way to our current pastor, the Revd. Pete Lopez, we have had faithful shepherds walking with us as we proclaim God's grace in this community
